MG13 Foundation

Marcin Gortat established his foundation In October 2009. His goal was and still is to help young people in fulfilling their sport dreams. In Poland talented sportsmen very often encounter a problem of insufficient funds that are needed to develop their talent and passion. Poland also lacks professional coaching and schooling staff. Marcin Gortat’s Foundation will try to recruit these young and promising players and grant them with scholarships. Thanks to the cooperation with the head of the European and American coaching staff, MG 13 Foundation will also offer professional training.

Marcin Gortat’s MG13 Foundation also wants to promote healthy life style. This goal is achieved by popularizing physical culture and sports among children and teenagers, as well as by supporting such institutions as: schools, children’s homes, nursing homes or other foundations. At present, the main discipline supported by our Foundation is Basketball. As our organization develops, we plan to expand our actions to other fields of sports.

The Foundation achieves its goals mainly throughout:

• Organizing camps and trainings for kids and youngsters (Marcin Gortat Camp);
• Granting scholarships for those being in a tough situation and for those particularly talented students;
• Organizing sports classes (Marcin Gortat’s school of sports, school leagues, streetball tournaments);
• providing sports equipment and buying new equipment for schools and institutions dealing with youngsters.

Marcin is fully aware, that the helping hand of kind people can guide one’s life and professional career in the right direction. If Marcin hadn’t met the right people on his path, he wouldn’t probably become a basketball player, not to mention an NBA player- the best basketball league in the world. By establishing this Foundation he wants to ‘pay his debt’ that he had incurred in the past.

2007- NBA debut as a player for Orlando Magic
2008- As the first Pole got to play in the Playoffs of the most famous league in the world- NBA
2009- got to play in the NBA finals
2009- as the leader of the Polish National Team he played in European Championships, which were held in Poland. Three games of this tournament, and two pre games were played in his hometown, Łódź, in the new Atlas Arena.
2010- got traded to the Phoenix Suns
